CRYSTAL ABYSS was formed in 1998. During 1999 the band has completed its first stable line up and recorded its first demo “First Born Snow”. In the end of 1999 the band has played its first gig. During 2000-2001 CRYSTAL ABYSS have gained considerable recognition and respect in Russia and recorded another demo “Visions of the Past” and “Sageness Fallen” EP.

The EP was warmly accepted by the community and press. “One of the best Black metal bands of Russia” Š Classic Rock, Russia – is among the quotations from authoritative press sources. Later songs from the EP were included into various compilations in France, Italy and Russia, and had high positions in mp3.com Black metal charts. Supporting “Sageness Fallen” the band played lots of gigs, including sold out ones in Moscow and other towns of Russia.

Since 2004 till 2006 CRYSTAL ABYSS had a lull, nearly “frozen” period caused by various problems and lack of means for doing the band in the proper manner.

In 2006 all problems were solved and the band was “revived”. The first thing to do was to record the long awaited debut album. To solve this the band has entered Studio X(Poland). In December 2006 famous Polish producer Szymon(Simon) Czech (Belfegor, Vesania, Yattering, Antigama, Dies Irae, Sceptic, Dominium, Tvangeste, Bright Ophidia, Enter Chaos, Non Opus Dei, Panzer X) finished the work on “Word of the Darkest Ages” album.

In 2006-2007 CRYSTAL ABYSS has returned to a live show activity and started to play single gigs and tours in Russia, Ukraine and Poland, performed on the main stage of Metalmania 2007 festival.

In January 2007 CRYSTAL ABYSS have recorded promo single “Darkness Awakes” as a sneak peak to their future work and a demo of possible production level. “Darkness Awakes” song was included into Metal Hammer(PL) 05.2007 compilation.
