Shoot the Breeze
Hokksund, NORWAY |
PRESSRELEASE
With their roots in the
classic rock of the 60's and
70's, Shoot the Breeze
represent a guitar based rock
with focus on riffs and strong
melodies. Unlike some other
bands who's searching for a
hype by "inventing" a new
genre with each new song, the
basis of Shoot the Breeze'
music lies in the traditional
rock, for then to ad exiting
elements from other genres.
The result is a varied and at
times innovative rock, with an
expression many will recognize
from "the great ones" of early
rock n roll.
Despite the fact that they
have four releases behind
them, it is mainly as a live
band Shoot the Breeze is to be
considered. They deliver every
time, and they believe that
the way to the top is thru
hard word and many gigs. Their
effort has given results, for
example a gig at the club day
of one of Norway’s biggest
festivals, Øyafestivalen, and
support gigs with great
Norwegian bands like CC
Cowboys and Hellbillies. Shoot
the Breeze has also been
played on English radio at
several occasions, had one
song on the Coca Cola pod
cast, and a tune on an
American music industry CD in
June 2007.
In January 2008 the band
received some more good news,
when Norwegian guitar legend
Ronnie le Tekrø expressed that
he liked the bands music, and
booked them into his studio in
August of 2008, whit himself
as producer.
Shoot the Breeze isn’t trying
to be something they’re not.
And they’re surely not trying
to be something someone else
is. With a straight up honest
musical expression and a high
speed liveshow, Shoot the
Breeze represent something
that will never be yesterdays
news; pure Rock ‘n Roll!!
THE STORY
Shoot the Breeze was founded
in a small Norwegian town
called Hokksund in 2004, when
guitarist and singer Mats
Nedberg, drummer Andreas
“Andy” Baklid and bass player
Steffen “Lucky” Kjolstad after
a few months of jamming found
that they needed an additional
guitar player to complement
their sound. Mats Nedberg made
a phone called to a friend of
a friend, Tor Erik “Vinnie”
Fredheim, and “made him an
offer he couldn’t refuse”.
The four guys really started
focusing on their music, in
the beginning under the name
Bobby Sucks (a spin of the
Norwegian Eurovision winners
Bobbysocks from 1984). They
later went over to the name
Smashing Stable Kids, before
they after recording their
first demo around new years
changed the name of the band
again, calling it up after one
of their newly recorded songs,
Shoot the Breeze.
The band begun to take on live
gigs at local youth clubs and
other small arrangements while
sending their demo around to
people they thought were
interested in hearing it. The
results started to show, and
the first big step for the
band was taken when a copy of
their demo winded up in the
hands of the base player in
Dirty Deeds, a local AC/DC
tribute band. He wanted the
band as support at one of
their concerts.
On the 16 of May 2005 Shoot
the Breeze entered the stage
at Martha’s Have, in front of
500 ecstatic Rock ‘n Roll
lovers, and the band did not
let them down!
Shortly after, another copy of
their demo came into the hands
of the man in charge of
booking at a blues club in
Oslo. He just so happen to be
the one in charge of booking
bands to the Club Day for the
Norwegian Øyafestival at Muddy
Waters in Oslo, a day where
the entire capitol is filled
with concerts and great bands.
By the time Shoot the Breeze
finished their set, the
legendary blues joint was
full, and the band had jet
again impressed with their
refreshing Rock ‘n Roll.
A time with a great deal of
concerts followed, before they
in December 2005 released
their second demo, given the
name “Rock out with your Cock
out”. The demo received good
reviews, and in April 2006 two
of the songs on the demo were
given radio time on Sky
Channel Radio in England.
Especially the song Just a
Folksong stood out as a crowd
pleaser, and was even made
“Best Guitar” in its genre on
garageband.com, in the first
week of May 2006.
The band was getting a
increasingly more stable live
band, and among the highlights
of 2006 was a Showcase at
legendary Smuget in Oslo, and
a support gig for the
Norwegian rock band CC
Cowboys.
Along with 2006 a change in
the band also came, when in
the month of June Mats
“Fowlie” Fauglie became the
bands new bass player. Shoot
the Breeze continued playing
live gigs, before the in
October went into studio to
record what came to be nine
new songs.
Before the band in February
2007 released five of the nine
songs recorded on the EP “With
some attitude”, many of the
songs had deliberately been
leaked onto the internet. This
resulted in a Track of the Day
award the song Whiskey &
Angels and Best Guitars, Best
Production, Best Beat, most
Original Track and most
Rocking Track award for the
song Higher Ground on
Garageband.com. The song I
wonder was chosen to be put on
an automatic play list on the
UK based website
pulserated.com and the rocking
track In the Mood made it onto
the Coca Cola Podcast for
showcasing new exciting
Norwegian music.
Many of their new songs also
made onto the Gatebil on Ice
DVD soundtrack, a DVD for car
enthusiasts, with 10 000
editions.
With some Attitude EP was
released on February 22, and
was well received. The local
newspaper DT gave it a four on
the dice in addition to a
great article. The newspaper
said the band had the
potential to stand out in
Norwegian rock, and honoured
the band for its stable
musical expression.
By March 2007 the band was
looking at a period with many
gigs many chances to present
their new music. Their ballad
What have We done was made
Track of the day on
Garageband.com on the 28 of
February, and the song Dear
Johnny was chosen to appear on
a compilation of songs that
present great new music, a
compilation distributed by the
New York based company Kid
Antrim Music to radio stations
and music business all over
America.
Then in August 2007 their
first full album “Ministers of
Mind” was released. Among many
concerts in connection with
the release of the album was
one as support for the great
country-rock band Hellbillies.
Ministers of Mind also got
good review on the American
music magazine itsatrap.com,
and a video for the song
Ministers was released.
2008 startet with great new,
when the band came in contact
with the Norwegian
guitarlegend Ronni le Tekrø of
TNT, and a studiosession was
booked in August 2008. |
